How to Get Media Viewer Off Your Computer

These are my novels on Lulu, please check them out.

Today I was going to tell you about my detective series.  I was going to describe the four members of the detective team that solves the cases, but I am putting that off until tomorrow.  Today I have something more important to talk about.

Last night we were watching the Amazon produced series, “Alpha House” through my computer and on our TV.  When I was setting it up my Internet was hit by a nasty Adware.  For those who might not have experience Adware, it is like a virus that pops up ads anytime you go to any page.  It intercepts your mouse click and directs you to one ad page or another.  It also throws ads up on any page you happen to be viewing.  This is not only annoying but it hangs up your computer and could possibly crash it.

This wasn’t the first time I had to deal with particular beast.  These characters are really clever in their methods of getting the app onto your computer.  I have yet to prevent it from showing up, but at least I know how to get rid of it.  If you know what to look for, you can get rid of it easy enough.  It is Adware and not a real virus so it can be found in your list of programs.

If you suddenly have ads pop up on the pages you are viewing, and if you click your mouse and a window pops up out of nowhere, this is what to do.

  1. Click on the Windows icon in the lower left corner of your screen.
  2. Click on the Control Panel.
  3. Click on Programs and Features
  4. Find Media Viewer in your list of programs.  The list is normally ordered with the last app installed on top, so it is likely to be near the top of the list.
  5. Click on Media Viewer and click Uninstall.
  6. Restart your computer.

That should get rid of it.  Some of the ads that it pops up are from well-known companies.  If this happens again, I’m going to write down their names and contact them.  Of course they will disavow any knowledge of the practice and say they are now responsible for what the add people do, but I still would like to give them a piece of my mind.

Don’t download anything from and popup screen that is telling you that your media player is out of date, that’s Media Viewer’s main way of sneaking onto your computer.  If you get stuck with it, follow the above steps and kill it.
