These are my novels on Lulu, please check them out.
One of things that I write about and complain about often is the extreme and mean spirited signs that show up on Facebook. I am always sensitive to censorship so I am not advocating any kind of new rules in order to mellow out the hateful words that show up. I am just making a plea to all the intelligent ladies and gentleman out there. Please avoid passing along hateful signs, even if sometimes that’s just the way you feel about someone.
Sometimes we feel that we are above consequence when we put things online and, for the most part, that’s true. Generally our core friends think like we do and when we lay into someone online we will likely get cheers and support. If they are your own words, that’s one thing; but when you are just passing on some sign or picture, that’s another.
Please think about what these signs are saying. The people that create them have an agenda and it may not be at all what you think. Some of these things are created simply to create hate and division among people. You don’t know the origin of some of these things. There is no reason to believe that these signs originate in the United States. They can be created in a country for the purpose of pitting Americans against each other and to cause as much disruption as possible.
These signs are also a method of spreading lies about people. If something is stated online and seen enough, people begin to believe it, even if there is no evidence to support the claim. There is no fact checking online. Just because something is written in big bold letters with a clever picture behind it, that doesn’t make the statement true.
It doesn’t matter if you think a politician is a money grubbing one-percenter that has nothing but contempt for the working people, or if you think a politician is a tax and spend socialist that is leading our country to ruin; it is better to relate your complaints based on the issues at hand. Show how the person is wrong on the issues, not how the person is an enemy of the state.
None of us are saints. Pick any famous name from politics to entertainment to sports and you can find dirt on them. The more money you have, the easier it is to get in trouble. Let’s face it, if I were rich all my life I would have got into plenty of excesses that would be worthy of the gossip columns.
Also, people that don’t think like you do are not anti-American and they are not out to destroy the country. They just don’t agree with you. As I have said many times, most of the grid lock in Washington is our own fault. Making the Congressional leadership out to be demons from hell doesn’t help at all. We vote in people and tell them to make a stand. When they make a stand we complain that no one wants to compromise. Compromise means you don’t get everything you want. You can’t expect your congress people to compromise and then expect to get your way all of the time, it doesn’t work that way.
I am asking everyone to avoid reposting hateful signs and statements. Avoid advocating violence, or implied violence. Remember that we are all Americans and, really, no one is trying to destroy the world for their own gain.
